WH.E.ST :: World Heritage - Education - Sustainable Transport
WH.E.ST The programme behind the expedition, this is where my efforts will rest for the next ten or so years. Three areas close to my heart, each of which play such important role in our lives currently... and into the future. It is our past that has shaped us, and our decisions now that will determine our future. Stand with me and make a difference in the world... let us enrich lives, one kilometre at a time.

CYCLIST SAFETY & MEMORIAL RIDES
In March 2010, Ray decided he'd had enough! There were simply too many cyclists being injured and killed on South African roads, and too little being done about it. So, he embarked on a 1500km ride across SA on a single-speed cruiser.

Well, this rapidly gained favour in the cycling community and is now an annual event... and 2011 is set to be a mammoth ride, covering 2000km in six days!

RIDE OF SILENCE
Ride of Silence In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. It has now spread internationally and 320 events were held worldwide in 2010.

It is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 20km/h and remain silent during the ride, of about 20km. There are no sponsors and no registration fees.

BRIC 25hr CYCLATHON
Every year, the young learners from Bishops & Rustenburg In Community [BRIC] come together to make a difference in the lives of others. Staging a 25hr non-stop cycle at the Waterfront in Cape Town, the learners raise money to help build houses for those less fortunate than them. Hats off to these guys & girls, as they do an amazing job... and I am proud to have been included in the festivities these last few years. I will definitely be back for 2011! BRIC 25hr Cyclathon

PREVIOUS CAMPAIGNS
Previous Campaigns There have been a bunch of exciting and slightly different campaign initiatives over the years, but all come down to serving the community and making a difference.

From fighting the system to try make Table Mountain National Park a safer place to pedalling a bicycle for a long weekend, Ray has done a fair share... and will continue to through the WH.E.ST initiative.
